Summer miles hit different. Between the sun, the sweat, and the humidity, hot-weather running punishes bad gear choices fast — and rewards the right ones. Here’s how to dress for it.

Start with your head

Your head is one of the biggest heat-release points on your body, so hat choice matters more than people think. Look for a full mesh crown for constant airflow (our M6SH Hat is built around exactly this — quick-drying performance fabric plus a mesh crown for nonstop breathability), or a featherweight construction with teardrop vents and a built-in sweatband, so sweat doesn’t end up in your eyes by mile two. If you run in direct sun more than shade, a visor keeps your head cooler than a full hat while still blocking glare.

Keep it light and loose

Tight, heavy fabric traps heat. Look for tanks and shorts built specifically for airflow rather than layering pieces repurposed from cooler-weather runs.

Don’t let your gear bounce you off pace

Nothing wrecks a hot run faster than a phone case slapping your hip for six miles. A cross-body running bag — ours has a removable “Sayonara Bounce” strap that locks it to your center of gravity — solves this without you having to carry anything in your hands.

Plan for the drive home

You will get in your car drenched. A car seat cover towel with a silicone-lined backing keeps that sweat off your seats instead of soaking through your seat covers permanently.

Bottom line: hot-weather running gear isn’t about wearing less, it’s about wearing smarter. Start with your hats and visors, round out your kit with breathable apparel, and you’ll stop dreading the forecast.
